The journey begins! I departed from Amsterdam to Munich on the night train. Travelling by night train saves you two nights in a hotel, you know. The only thing is that you arrive in the city very, very early, and then you leave very late; you have to be prepared for that. I love travelling by train; no registrations, flights—just fall asleep in one city in the evening and wake up in another. Of course, you have to get used to the train; it's not always easy to sleep properly, but it's worth it!

It's great that there's a wonderful coffee shop near the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) that opens early and has comfortable sofas! I fill myself with coffee, charge my phone, and sometimes spend a couple of hours here to avoid getting too tired during the day.
Usually, hotels check-in at three, and I need to conserve energy to see and do as much as possible! Well, off we go! The city is empty on January 1st; everyone is recovering from yesterday's celebrations. And here I am, admiring the morning sun and the beautiful architecture. ☕🌇🏰

Marienplatz is a central place in Munich. Its Gothic cathedral, occupying a whole block, is simply a masterpiece! Be sure to enter the courtyard; there you can see gargoyles up close and even take photos with them!
On January 1st, of course, the inner courtyard was closed, probably to prevent fireworks, but I was there on my last visit.
The restaurant downstairs in the basement of this monument is also good! Delicious food, excellent beer, and the church interior look very interesting.

Viktualienmarkt is my second love, framed by beautiful buildings, full of various delicacies. Of course, on January 1st, it is closed, although maybe something will open after noon! The beer garden, the fish pavilion are places where you can eat well and affordably.

My another recommendation is Richart coffee, mulled wine, and delicious pastries! I absolutely love the Viennese quark strudel, I always buy it. By the way, it has a lot of quark and a thin layer of dough, healthy and tasty! And then wander around the kiosks with other goodies. But my plan further is the English Garden.
To be continued in Enlischer Garten! Seeya!
