Amsterdam Christmas market on Rembrandt square

Updated: Dec 27, 2023

Hello from the Christmas market in Amsterdam!

In Amsterdam, in this time f the year, there are several markets, for example, on Rembrandt square! Here, during the holiday season, there are stalls with sausages, mulled wine, churros, and a small ice rink. Since Rembrandtplein (Dutch word for Rembrandt square) is very small, the market is not large either, but it's very cozy, especially in the twilight.

There are lots of lights, music playing, and people skating. For those who don't know how to skate and for little ones, there are special orange seals to hold onto.

And if you've had too much mulled wine, you can simply sit, listen to Christmas music, and watch people skate against the backdrop of unique Dutch gingerbread facades that seem to have just jumped out of the oven.

All this atmosphere, cafes, shops, and the bustling tram is the classic Rembrandt Square. The statue of Rembrandt himself invariably stands, gazing at the constantly changing scenery and the influx of tourists or people working or studying in Amsterdam who come here to hang out or eat during breaks or after all their business.

By the way, besides Rembrandt, other sculptures are periodically exhibited here. The Night Watch, which stood here for several years, has been removed, and now there's this pensive golden cosmonaut! Apparently, so that Rembrandt is not bored alone. Although you don't get bored here, there are always people!

So, if you decide to go to the museum, stop by the Christmas market - you can have a snack and try mulled wine and other drinks. Christmas lights certainly look cozier in the evening; we came here too early.
